In 2017, Europa-Park recognised criticisms of hurtful portrayals of black folks portrayed as wild natives, and white individuals as colonial rulers in safari outfits within the Adventureland themed space. However, the park rejected allegations of racism and discrimination up to 2021 and made only small changes in response, such as renaming “Colonial Food Station” to “Adventure Food Station”. In January 2022, it was announced that the Jungle Rafts journey could be closed until the beginning of the 2023 season to be completely renovated and rethemed to be a part of the Austria area.
