New York’s second-largest state park with over 46,000 acres crammed with 31 lakes and 200 climbing trails, Harriman State Park is the perfect weekend mountaineering trip vacation spot out of New York City. Take New Jersey Transit’s Port Jervis Line out of Penn Station to Tuxedo (a 90-minute journey), then take a taxi to the trailheads. Out of the entire available getaways from Los Angeles, Catalina Island is without a doubt essentially the most distinctive one of them all. This small yet gorgeous island at all times appears to move me out of California and as an alternative to somewhere harking back to the Mediterranean seashores in Europe. With its brilliant blue shoreline and cliffside views that will make that cocktail in hand taste that much sweeter, Catalina Island is the right weekend trip from LA to make you’re feeling worlds away from residence.
